Our Journey

Our Journey

From Grassroots Action to System Strengthening (2003–2025)

Every year added a layer.
Every project strengthened the foundation.
This is how PAHAL evolved — step by step.
2003 – The Beginning

PAHAL was founded with a simple belief: Communities must lead their own development.

Early work focused on grassroots mobilization, awareness building, and strengthening access to basic rights in underserved regions of Madhya Pradesh.

We started small.
But we started with clarity.

2010–2013 – Expanding into Health Systems

Focus shifted toward community health and maternal-child wellbeing.

  • Community mobilization for institutional deliveries
  • Strengthening Village Health, Sanitation & Nutrition Committees
  • Building trust with frontline health workers

In 2013, the Community Medical Centre in Khajrana (Indore) was established — marking PAHAL’s long-term commitment to urban marginalized populations.

2015–2018 – Nutrition & Participatory Models

PAHAL began integrating structured Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approaches.

  • Women’s group-based health discussions
  • Frontline worker capacity building
  • Strengthening last-mile delivery systems

This period laid the groundwork for larger, system-focused nutrition interventions.

2018–2021 – POSHANAM & Large-Scale Nutrition Impact

In partnership with international agencies, PAHAL implemented multi-year nutrition interventions in tribal districts.

  • 1,784 Anganwadi Workers trained
  • 1,500 Nutrition Gardens established
  • Measurable improvements in dietary diversity

This phase marked PAHAL’s shift from community-level mobilization to evidence-backed system strengthening.

2020–2023 – Climate & Livelihood Resilience

Recognizing the link between nutrition and agriculture, PAHAL expanded into climate-resilient farming.

  • 311+ hectares under adaptive agriculture
  • Strengthening Farmer Producer Organizations
  • Women’s digital and financial literacy initiatives

Livelihoods became central to sustainable wellbeing.

2021–2024 – Youth & Gender Justice

Youth leadership programs emerged as a strong pillar.

  • Community-led monitoring of child marriage
  • Institutional gender sensitization initiatives
  • Youth volunteers acting as rights advocates

PAHAL moved from service delivery to rights-based empowerment.

2024–2025 – Integrated, Scalable Models

Today, PAHAL operates at the intersection of:

  • Nutrition
  • Health Systems
  • Climate-Resilient Livelihoods
  • Youth Leadership
  • Gender Justice

The focus is clear:

  • Convergence with government systems
  • Replicable intervention frameworks
  • Measurable outcomes
  • Sustainable community ownership
